October 03 Mind Boggling memoirs of an Stockholm syndrome bloggerStockholm, as in Stockholm. Finland
the pics are comin in slowly... i´ve put in about 1/3 of them so vúhú... was just catchin up what i had written from the trip, and realized that i was pretty drunk on every entry that i put in so i´m just gonna start with the roskilde feestival and music there...i don´t have any pics from roskilde cos i was to damn stupid to buy a camera.
The flight was prety much like as i described before and the first day also. i planned to take it a bit slow at the festival since i was flyin solo and chill on the partyin, but it was quite the opposite, I drank like a maniac and partied like a super fly son of an Hasselhoff... i stayed awake until like 6-9 o clock in the morning, just like an true Icelandic and then of course i didn´t get up until like between 3 or 5 o´clock in the day, and believe me to sleep in a tent over the day time in the hot weather that was goin on there is not really pleasant (+i kinda managed to put the tent up in a bizzarly fukked opp manner and that didn´t improve the air conditioning of my igloo palace) but even if it wasn´t pleasant, it was truly needed and easily fixed with a nice shower and a warm beer....
Of course i met a bunch of cool pepls also there, the lads and girl from the bands tomcats, and dreamboy aka the almost famous (swedish) gang were brilliant, rassmus and farsans bunch was cool and i hung with them on more then a couple of concerts and occasions, the scottish lads wich names i´ve sadly forgotten cos scottish people are great for a drunken icelandic soccer hooligan who sounds scottish at 3 o clock in the night to mess with... and the pepls me and oliver met the last night in a blaze of glory amongst all the ruins, torfinn ,anna and ingveld.... i dont think any others are worth mentioning except one cool danish guy who wanteed to buy my adidas mans bag for 1500 danish kroners at the snoop dogg gig, which was a big offer but i declined and got a couple of beers in the bargain.. plus the norwegian pepl i met in the beginning of the festival ended up to be a bunch of knobbheads and wankers who would deserve a david lynch version of a monty pithon sketch raining on theire smiley faces..
now for the music, the camping stage bands i saw were not that many but green pitch and erwin thomas were the ones that stood up from that part of the festival, and maybe also the icelandic virgins in wedding dresses Brúðarbandið... but on thursday i saw about half of the Flogging molly(irish folk punk) concert and they sounded quite nice but i quickly moved over to see some of the velvet revolver show, didn´t see so much of them but what I saw and heard was cool, plus a cover of pink floyds Wish you were here was on the spot.... but the main attraction of the night was Sonic Youth, i was upfront and damn, it was effffffffffing brilliant and one of the best of roskildes this year ,i saw them also here in iceland last august and that gig was a bit different but also great, just truly one of the best bands of all time and if u havent heard them yet, change that today! After sonic I sat down and wathced the end of le tigre while eating some pasta and it was rather difficult not to dance, a cool band and cool show... I didn´t see Kent that was playing a bit later cos i´m not a Kent fan and don´t like them that much so i chose rather to drink icecold beer and loads of it. Then came friday, and of course Mugison that great lad did the veni, vidi, vici in an immacculate way like as if he was the cool version of Ron Howard, u should check him out, then came SNOOP, he had the whole audience in his palm, a vintage performance from the dogfaather, a true blunt master... after some snoop i just wandered and dropped into Captain Comatose, 2 great lads with some funky attitude, if u like smiley faced house disco u should check it out... after that came a band witch i wanted to see Warren Suicide, a cool trio from germany with some great elctro clash punk, one of the best gig of the festival, at least the one that made me the most surprized... audioslave was playin at the same time so i missed them except the last song which was ok cos i had already seen r.a.t.m. in concert and didn´t really wanna destroy that memory (and i know it aint the same band), so after that came the Tears (brett anderson and bernard butler former suede duo) i was expecting at least some suede pearls but they didn´t come, but nevertheless a nice gig....then came The Other Side Of Sonic Youth with their guitar noice and feedback, not for everybody but I LOVEd it, I chose that over Black Sabbath but i saw the first and last song by with sabbath, Iron man and Paranoid and that was enough for me...after that i strolled down to see death from above 1979 and that was a lovely show... but then came the highlight of the evening, Autechre, just wow! true geniusis, one of the highlights of the festival... after that i killed off a great day with Malador (one of mike pattons faith no more bands/projects) and theire fun trick noise making, some would call it a recipe for a major headache similar to the other side of sonic, but i liked it :)... I started saturday with mike patton and the fantomas around 4 o clock and the gig was as cool as you would expect from them, then i had to choose beetween Mylo and the foo fighters, it was to fookkkkin crowded at foo fighters so i picked mylo instead and the scottish fella did great with his miami vice groovesss, check out his cd destroy rock n roll...nevertheless i heard about 3 or 4 foo fighters songs...that is while i was waiting for röyksopp to begin, they were nice but too crowded and a bunch of danish teenagers dragged that gig a bit down... after that came a hefty schedule, Green day, Patton/rahzel, the raveonettes and Four tet. Green day sounded ok but it was to bloody crowded at the orange stage so i just hung there for about 7 songs and then decided too check out Patton/rahzel with their fat beatbox beats, that show was fokking cool after about an hour into that I pissed off to see a bit of the raveonettes which didn´t dissapoint me and were great....then came the highlight of the day Four Tet just awesome and words are not enough to describe that gig, u should most definetly check him out... after him i took a breather and saw sum oldie goldies, Duran Duran, it was quite nice hearing view to a kill, save a prayer and other songs in the danish night.. a solid performance from the vets.... after that i was so stupid to wait for a band called Dungen, they started 30 mins too late, 3 o clock instead of 2:30 after midnight and they sucked atleast the first 3 songs, then i left to party... SUNDAY AND BRIAN WILSON, sunday didn´t offer a big variety but the few were great, i missed bloc party and the Go! team cos i had to wait for my friend oliver who just bought a day ticket to see Brian W and Interpol, and I really wanted to see the go! team but that will come later...we catched the later half of ...ANd you will know us by the trail of dead, a great gig but WOW it was at the orange stage and it was like a desert, there were maybe around 200 pepls at concert instead of the tens of thousand at the same place the days before, it was a bit sad to see but strangely entertaining...then came the king BRIAN WILSON legendary beach boys frontman, we placed us up front and watched the concert with an awh, a magnifficent performance by the lad and the number one gig of the festival, VIVA LES BEACH BOYS... after that came interpol, a great band (despite the fatal "we have never heard of ian curtis or joy division" comment, )if you havent heard of JOy Division then you have a gem left there honey!.. interpol were cool and a nice ending for a great music festival... after that came the third world war with loads of pepls walking around trashin everything like monkeys and makin fires... thank you for your patience by reading this and my deepest simpathy for your loss of time TrackbacksThe trackback URL for this entry is: http://hafragrautur.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E7D293E6F2F6B01!505.trak Weblogs that reference this entry
